Kate MccGwire is a renowned British sculptor whose practice probes the beauty inherent in duality, employing natural materials to explore the play of opposites at an aesthetic, intellectual and visceral level.Her primary fascination is with birds and she makes uncanny organic sculptures using layers and layers of bird feathers.The objects are so precisely assembled that they seem to form hybrid creatures with tentacles or limbs that twist and curve into unexpected forms.I find her works intimidating, sinister, unsettling,unnerving. The resemble creatures which might suddenly unleash their power and destroy everything or magical beasts found in Hagrid's garden.
